MODEL PHARMACY PILOT PRODUCTION UNIT
The Need
In the time past, the Pilot Production Unit of the Faculty provided a veritable avenue for training our students on pilot scale drug production which made it easier for them to integrate into the large scale production, when they get into actual practice.
It also gave the staff, especially those in Pharmaceutical Technology and Pharmaceutics Departments, a valuable opportunity to sharpen their production skills and keep abreast of new production techniques as well solve emerging production challenges. The unit was also producing some drugs, on a pilot scale that used to service the University’s Medical Centre and a few hospitals around, thereby yielding some revenue to the Faculty and the University.
This has expectedly, affected the quality of our graduates, especially in the area of drug production, and the downward trend is becoming too frightening, that there is urgent need to reactivate the Unit.
It was additionally offering some consultancy services to some entrepreneurial pharmacists around. Over the years, the facilities have gradually decayed, leaving the Unit moribund and dusty.
Our Resources
The Faculty has a full complement of hardworking and intelligent staff who would serve the manpower need of the Pilot Production Unit when it is fully back on its feet. Some of the facilities previously employed are still in repairable conditions, while the space that housed it is still available.
